In a rut

I've been in a knitting rut for the last week or so, since my Nana died. I don't have any motivation to pick up my needles despite that fact  that I'm looking at a barely started project that I want to get to work on. I also don't remember what I was in the pattern so that doesn't help. I have a lot of projects I want to work on but just don't feel like it.
Do you ever get in a slump? What do you do to get motivated again? I know this bummy feeling will pass but I want to be excited about knitting again. Maybe its time to learn something new.

Goodbye Nana, I love you.

The last 3 days have been a stress filled, sleepless expensive nightmare. My Nana died Tuesday morning after 86 years of being awesome. I received the call from my brother while I was at work, knowing something was wrong called him back. That's when he told me, and the heartaches began.
My Nana is the person I remember knitting. She's the reason I knit and love it so much. In my own little way it's my way of being close to her. Sharing the joy or creating that she loved so much. In recent years with declining health she hasn't been able to knit and I'm my own small way I feel like I'm continuing her legacy.
I have wonderful childhood memories of warm wool socks and cabled mittens. I definitly did not appreciate them at the time but as I got older and learned what it takes to create them I am so luck to have had a Nana or anyone to take the time to make things for me because she loved me.
My heart is heavy with all the "Never Agains" and I wish I had made more of an efforts. I am very grateful for every Christmas visit, every summer they spent with us. All the time we had I am very lucky to have had that time.

As I write this on my iPhone, waiting on my lay over,(crying like a crazy person) I can't help but have a little bit of joy for the amazing life my Nana lived. She taught me a lot, made me laugh and was always so loving.

Goodbye Nana I love you very much and you will be missed very much.
Please excuse my poor-er than usual grammar.

scarves galore!

I've been a busy little bee lately! I've got some big knitting plans for 2011 and so far I think I'm making a good dent in my goals. I've finished one project thus far and started working on the second.

My first project was a lace scarf like the one shown below. The one below was my mother-in-laws Christmas gift.

The one I just finished (and am currently blocking) is made from Valley Yarns Prescott. It is a super fine Alpaca and knits up very nice. I used #7 needles (I think?). When I started I knitted about 5 or 6 rows on 3 different sizes on needles. Way too big, too small, too big again. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I used the few hanks that I had left. I had just enough to make the scarf as long as I wanted it to be.
Now it's blocking on my make-shift blocking table. I'm using blocking mats stretched across a drying rack and a counter in my kitchen. I have cracker boxes hold up one of the mats so its the same height as the rack. I'm sure my husband loves it. Oh the joys of living in a small space!

Up next for me is another scarf. For this little guy here, I'm working with knit picks gloss lace in sterling  and #6 needles. I'm loving this pattern so far! I'm only about 10% finished but I love that it's in blocks of 20 rows.
Knit 20 rows, take the dog for a walk.
Knit 20 rows, do the dishes.
Knit 20 rows, clean the bathroom.
Knit 20 rows, eat lunch.
Knit 20 rows, blog.

Ok well, only the first one has been accomplished so far. It isn't even 10 o'clock yet! Leave me alone... Geez. I feel like it'll be a very productive day this way.

In other news, I'm waiting on some yarn to arrive from Supersock store from their January sale. I'm really hoping today is the day! It's been so long I've forgotten what I've ordered. It hasn't been THAT long, I placed my order on the 2nd. It was shipped on the 11th with 4-7 days shipping. I'm getting antsy  for it arrive. Patience is not my strong suit. We'll see when the mail gets here. Wait is there mail today? I sure hope so...
I'll post progress photos of my work.

Oh yeah, Happy New Year! by now most of us have given up on our resolutions, for the most part I'm still going strong, I hope you are too!

EDIT: No mail today. WAH!

Tis the season to knit till you're fingers bleed.

Wait, thats not how the song goes...

Holy Dinah I've been busy! I'm ALMOST finished all of my holiday knitting. I say almost but I still have 9 or 10 little mini sweater ornaments left to make for family, and maybe one for me. I need to have at least 3 finished by December 2nd and in the mail to make sure it makes to Canada by Christmas. Hopefully that'll be enough time, right?

I just finished toque (beanie) for my bff's lovely little man. That kid's head is huge! He's barely six months old and his head is 17"... Is that normal? I have no idea. Babies are not my speciality! This is the second thing I've made for him. This hat was way easier and quicker. I used a pattern from Family Knits by Debbie Bliss and Knitpicks swish DK in Seaglass. I will post pictures after the holidays. I don't want to ruin any surprises.

I finished a scarf for my momma-in-law, it's lace! ooohhh! Again I'll post pictures once the holidays are finished.

I'm always thinking of the future, I'm looking for a throw pattern to make for my Dad for his birthday (in October!). I've never made anything for my Dad before, I think I've found the perfect blanket. It looks to be the same as one that his mom made forever ago that was on his recliner. I don't  know what happened to that blanket, hopefully he'll like it.

I've never been a big holiday person, but this year I'm REALLY excited for Christmas, not because I'm going to be with family (because I'm not) or because I'm excited for presents (there really isn't anything I want). I'm really excited to GIVE this year. I can't wait for that specially little man to get his presents (we'll his mom mostly) and for my family to have little sweaters on their trees. I can't wait for my husband to open his gifts (they're good ones, lemme tell you. I can't tell you, he might read this).

After these next few projects are finished I'm looking to start something new. I really want to start making things for others, babies especially. I've just started googling children's hospitals in Southern California to see what they are in need of.  So far it's been slow going. Really I only looked for 5 minutes.

I have been plans for the new year, and I'll share them with you in a little bit. Now it's back to work for me! Thought I'd just say Hi, hope you're well and give you a little update as to what I've been doing. I'll post pictures soon, I promise.

} , but don't know if knitting will be possible. Boo!
Fellow knitters, any advice, other than let it heal?
I swear I have the worst luck.
